Hunt Story
I saw young bucks and does all morning. The young bucks were doing a little chasing. A doe and fawn came in about 8 a.m., and as I was watching her she looked up the hill and to my left in planted pines. I looked over my shoulder and there he was at 75 yards. I had my bow and gun in the tree with me, and I had my hand on the bow. He just stood there for a little bit but decided to start walking away. I couldn't let a deer like this get away so I grabbed my rifle. As I did, the doe blew, and he got very nervous so I rushed the shot a little and hit him way back. When I got down, there was no blood to be found, so at 10:30 my nephew and I went down to the creek bottom I saw him run in to. We jumped him up, and I decided to back out and call a dog. Randy Vick met me about 2 p.m. with his dog Reba. She immediately got on the trail where we jumped the deer up, and she found him soon after starting the tracking job. I had many pictures of this deer and to finally see him on the ground was an unreal feeling.
