Hunt Story
We got in the tree 30 minutes before shooting light and immediately noticed several deer moving down at the end of the old woods road we were sitting on. Finally, it got light enough to see good, and a doe and yearling walked out about 50 yards from us. We were sitting on the edge of a drain that is full of water from the recent rain and heard some splashing to our right. A big cow horn popped out and started pushing the doe. About 20 minutes later this guy stepped out at the end of the wood's road about 90 yds from us. He immediately postured toward a 6-pointer that joined the scene and they started clashing horns pretty good. Once that was over this deer moved into the woods before Tripp could get a good shot. About 15 minutes later, he popped back out, but Tripp was ready. He settled the crosshairs in and squeezed the trigger of his .243 single shot. The buck mule kicked and piled up 30 yds inside the woods. I have been fortunate to kill some really nice bucks and have taken part in some great hunts in my life, but as a dad this one was by far the best I have ever experienced. This is Tripp's first deer and a really nice buck at that!
