Hunt Story
It was a chilly overcast Halloween morning in Morgan County. This was the first morning I hunted this property. I was in my climber on the edge of some 20-year-old planted pines and hardwoods. I got settled in, and in no time I heard a buck grunting and chasing does, but it was still dark. I was going to use my GoPro to film some of my hunt for the first time, so I had it set up, but I was waiting on good daylight to turn it on. I finally had good light to turn the camera on around 7:30. I hit my grunt call three times, and in 2 minutes I heard something walking to my right, and I turned to look and all I saw was a big rack easing up to the opening. I knew the instant I looked at him that he was a trophy to me. He was only 20 yards away, and when he stepped behind a big water oak tree, I twisted around to get ready for the shot. My heart was pounding when he walked out from behind the tree. Then he looked up at me, and I knew when he turned his head I was going to have to take the shot. He looked back in front of him and I put the crosshairs on his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. My adrenaline was pumping when the shot rang out, and he ran about 40 yards and I watched him fall. This was the first nice buck I have shot in 2 years, and I made a perfect kill shot and got it all on video.
