Hunt Story
IT WAS THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING WHEN MY DAD, OLDER BROTHER AND I WENT HUNTING. MY DAD AND I HAD BEEN A LOT THIS YEAR TRYING TO GET MY FIRST DEER, SO IT WAS DECIDED THAT IF THE OPPORTUNITY AROSE I WOULD GET THE FIRST CHANCE TO SHOOT, AND THEN MY BROTHER. WE ARRIVED AT THE STAND LOCATION AT 4 PM. THE FOOD PLOT IS ABOUT 2 ACRES IN SIZE AND SHAPED LIKE A "Y" WITH WATER OAKS AROUND THE PERIMETER. AT 5 PM A DOE STEPPED OUT FOLLOWED BY THE BUCK ON THE LEFT SIDE OF FOOD PLOT AND 3 DOES STEPPED OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. THE DEER WERE ABOUT 125 YARDS OUT, AND MY DAD HELPED ME GET MY 7MM-08 THAT I GOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY IN POSITION TO SHOOT. I HAD TO SIT ON HIS LEG TO REACH THE SHOOTING RAIL. MY DAD TALKED ME THROUGH THE PROCESS AND TOLD ME TO SQEEZE THE TRIGGER WHEN I WAS READY, AND I DID! THE BUCK EXITED THE FOOD PLOT IN A HURRY, BUT MY DAD SAID HE WAS HIT HARD. WELL THE THREE DOES THAT HAD COME OUT TO THE RIGHT WERE STILL STANDING THERE LOOKING AROUND, SO MY DAD TOLD MY OLDER BROTHER TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE A SHOT AND HE DID. WE RETRIEVED MY BUCK FIRST, HE WENT ONLY ABOUT 15 YARDS INTO THE WOODS AND MY BROTHER'S DEER WAS ABOUT THE SAME. I WAS VERY EXCITED TO KILL MY FIRST DEER!!
