Hunt Story

I have been watching four large bucks on my trail camera for two months. The two biggest bucks are a 9-pointer and a uniform 8-pointer. About 7:40 p.m. a doe came to my left side about 60 yards away. I had often seen that doe with the uniform 8-pointer. I looked to my left, and the 8-pointer came to the feeder. I shot it with my crossbow quartering toward me. I could tell by the sound and the way the deer responded that it was a good hit. I waited an hour to get down. I found the arrow covered in blood and slight amount of material that told me I did hit some gut, but light blood also made me believe I got lung. As I tried to track it, I heard noise like I might have jumped it while it was laying down. I feared I was going to lose the deer, so I called Kevin Bowldwn listed in the GON as one of the tracking dog teams. Kevin came out and with his dog, took me right to the deer. I had gone at least 200-300 yards. I doubt I would have found the deer without Kevin's help. He even helped me drag the deer, which is the heaviest deer I shot in over 30 years hunting in GA. It was not officially weighed, but feel certain it was over 200 pounds.
