Hunt Story
I have had this buck on camera since he was in velvet. I am hunting family property that my late father-in-law, Johnny owned. I decided this year to hunt a piece of the property that has not been hunted in several years. I set up a camera at a stand called “RattleSnake” and this deer showed up right away. This is the 1st stand Johnny set up when he purchased the property. I hunted him pretty hard at the beginning of bow season but never seen him. Of course he kept showing up on camera while I wasn’t in the stand!! Then he started showing up at another stand call “The Alabama Slammer” not far away. I moved shop over there and he showed up!! Walked in front of me and I missed him with my bow!!! Then the next day I saw him again and could not get a shot on him. I really wanted back in the stand but I had to take my Dad to routine heart surgery. He wound up having a massive stroke after surgery and passing away five days later. After funeral and all I felt like the woods would be the perfect place for me to be. Went a few times with my muzzleloader but never saw him. Let the stand cool down a few days, watched the Bulldawgs whoop-up on Texas and headed back to the woods. Got in the stand Sunday afternoon about 4:00. At 6:00 there were 22 deer in front of me. Several small bucks and a couple decent 8-pointers. A couple small bucks were fighting and couple laying in the field. Does were feeding. One of the 8-pointers and a couple doe kept looking up the wood line, I see a deer but can only see his body because of a limb, but I new it was a Buck. Pulled up my binoculars and saw it was him!!! My heart pounding he walked out about 90 yards and came to about 65 yards right in front of me. I shot him with my Weatherby 270 mag. He dropped and my good buddy Lane came and helped me load him up!! I know Johnny and my Dad would be tickled!!
