Hunt Story
I had a previous encounter with this buck last year between Christmas and New Year's Day. Unfortunately, I grazed him. I even brought in a tracking dog but to no avail. I was heartbroken. We got a picture of him a week later so we knew there was a chance that he might survive. Fast forward to this season, he started showing up again on one of our cameras in early December 2020 as well as one of our neighbors. I like hunting fields in the morning during the full moon which factored into my stand decision. Coincidentally, my choice happened to be the same stand as last year's missed opportunity. I had been thinking about this buck and reminiscing about that hunt, off and on, for approx. 15 minutes when I saw movement over my left shoulder. I turned and to my surprise, he was walking across the field, followed by another buck. Almost a year to the day, mysteriously, there he was...headed my way! He gave me a second chance. I actually captured video footage of him first and was content to watch him but then those long beams just looked too big in my scope. Definitely an older, mature buck. I Included a picture of him from last season in this entry. His rack this year looks almost identical. What a hunt!
