I was hunting in a box stand over a food plot surrounded by a broom sage field in front and big pines behind and to the right side. Two does and a young 8-point came into the food plot from the broom sage. They fed for a while and the buck went back into the broom sage. Another young buck came into the plot from the broom sage. I was watching him through binoculars when suddenly I saw antlers coming over the broom sage. The big buck came out into the food plot and started walking toward the stand. It didn’t take long to decide that he was a shooter. I picked up my rifle and aimed through the end window of the stand and quickly realized there was a limb in the way of a clear shot. When moving the rifle to the front window I managed to bang the front of the heater. The does and the small buck spooked and ran toward the right end of the plot and the big buck followed. They all stopped before going into the big pines and I was able to move the rifle back to the end window and got a clear shot. He ran into the big trees at the right end of the plot and fell dead within 30 feet.
