Hunt Story

I bought the farm in March and had been feeding Buck Muscle out of troughs and took inventory over the summer. I had cell camera pics of the deer 6 out of the 7 days in a row before opening day. This deer was running with a big 7-point that was my target deer. The big 7 showed up at 7:25, and I scalped his back when I shot over him. I had several other deer under me, and I could not range find the big 7. So, I misjudged the distance and missed. The target buck didn't spook bad. I thought he might show back up, but I knew the deer I shot was running with him. After I missed the 7 I was thinking I still had a shot at this big G3 deer because he was using the same area. At 7:50, I heard horns hitting trees on the same trail, so I went ahead got my rangefinder in hand and waited for whatever it was to enter the field. He came out and faced me at 27 yards forever, and good daylight was fading fast. There luckily were other deer feeding and he was pushing them around and stopped finally and gave me a 25-yard shot, and I basically was shooting at a silhouette of a deer at this point, so I drew back, and center punched the body. Luckily I made a good lung shot. I waited 30 minutes and found good blood in the field. I called my brother and son which were hunting with me, and I told them lets go eat supper and give the deer time to expire. I had followed my lighted nock as the arrow didn't get a full pass through. I was worried because all the sudden the nock disappeared as the deer exited the field. We all three came back to where I had marked the blood trail, and we immediately found him within 50 yards of my marked area, and he expired on top of the nock.
