Hunt Story
With Hurricane Matthew bearing down on Savannah, we evacuated family and animals to our family farm in Jenkins County. My wife, 5 girls, 15 dogs and 19 cats. A handful. With everyone settled in for the storm, an hour and a half before dark I decided to take a much needed break and walk down to a lock-on we have set up downwind from a huge white oak. Very windy and a steady drizzle. But oh the calm! Not 10 minutes into the sit, I catch movement to my left. Not 15 yards stood a buck. When he turned to look up the hill, I reached for my bow, drew back and shot him right behind his right shoulder. He took off down the bottom. My arrow stuck in the ground, the nocturnal glowing. It was now very windy with steady rain. I walked back to the barn and our camper. Called my son Scott and asked him to come help me find him. With winds howling and heavy rains, we decided to wait till the next morning. We sat through hurricane Matthew, and at daybreak we walked less than 80 yards and found him on the bank of a slough. He is a buck we call "Fat Boy!" We had many trail-cam pics of him for the past two years! Hurricane Buck!
