Hunt Story
It all started during the 2013 deer season when we were getting pictures of a nice 2-year-old 8-point. We gave him name “High Rack!” My family and I had seen the deer. We believe in trophy management, so we were excited to see him during the 2014 season. I took a shot at him with the bow and missed. My oldest son shot at him with the bow and missed. My wife saw him and had her bow drawn, but couldn’t get a shot at him. During the summer of 2015, we started seeing him again. He had become a really nice 4 1/2-year-old. My oldest son claimed him and set out to kill him with his bow. He missed him on opening day of bow season. He hunted “High Rack” and only “High Rack” until two weeks before the season was out. We were getting tons of daylight pictures of him, but my son never could come in contact with him. He finally told me to go hunt “High Rack.” I had an idea where he was bedding down most of the time. On January 3rd, I took a climber and my gun to set up on a food plot by his bedding area. I couldn’t get close enough to the plot to hunt him with my bow. He did not show up. Two days later, I went back to the climber, and again he was a no show. I got off work a little early on January 6th, and was in my climber by 4:10. At 4:50 “High Rack” stepped into the plot 80 yards from me. I made a good shot, and he ran about 20 yards before he fell over. Finally after seeing him for three years and hunting him for two years, our family encounters with “High Rack” had ended. We were all so excited because it was like the whole family had killed him. I was so glad that we got him instead of someone else because we had so much history with him.
