Hunt Story
One of my favorite spots to sit where I have had a lot of success did not let me down. We appear to not have the quality of deer this year that we have had in the past. The landowner and another friend we hunt with had seen this deer several times during the bow season, and one of them had seen him chasing does in a clearcut back during the first week of November. This deer appeared on his own into the food plot around 5:00 PM. I texted my dad that I had "Choco" (what we had named this deer) in the food plot. My dad and I had just returned the day before from Illinois where he had killed a good buck and I should have shot a really good 10-pointer that I decided to pass on. I really wanted to kill a good buck, and my dad knew this. He gave me the go ahead, and I lined up the 110-yard shot. At the sound of the rifle, Choco buckled his front legs out from under himself and pushed himself out of the plot. He went out of sight. I gave him about 10 minutes, unloaded my rifle and got down. I reloaded and walked to where I saw him enter the woods and called my dad. I had only went a few yards into the woods when I saw him piled up about 70 yards form where I had shot him. I was able to share the excitement with my dad while on the phone. Choco was down!
