Hunt Story
It was a hot day. I started off telling myself I wouldn’t go. I was so happy I did. I got in the stand around 5:30. Knowing that I had some good deer on camera the evening before. Around 6 p.m. I spotted a 4-point around 100 yards away in a bottom. I watched him for a while. He just stood in one position for which seemed to be around 30 minutes. Around 6:30 a spike walked out and fed around my stand on brush. After almost 30 minutes I could hear deer crossing the creek. At this moment the spike was under my climber. I couldn’t move but I noticed he saw something coming. I could tell by his body language. Sure enough the deer started pouring out. I was covered in deer. A good 8-point walked out and I decided I was going to shoot him. As I reached for my bow another deer caught my attention, this happened to be the deer I shot. He was walking parallel to my left. I grabbed my bow and stood up. I ranged him at 37 yards and then again at 41 yards. He was steady walking. I quickly adjusted my bow to 43 yards. I knew he had to be between 41 and 45. I drew back and made a perfect shot at him quartering away from me. As soon as the arrow hit, I knew I had done damage. His chest dropped and he barreled into a thicket. I stayed in the tree for another 30 minutes or so watching several more deer. I got down and went straight to my arrow and it was covered in blood. I quickly backed out and waited on my older brother to arrive. He got there around an hour later and we started tracking. There wasn’t any blood at all. The deer ended up running about 80 yards and died. He ended up crashing in a bottom on the other side of the thicket I had last seen him go in. I was very blessed to have such a wonderful hunt and make a memory that will last a life time.
