Hunt Story

On Sunday, October 27, 2024 I decided to hunt a planted pine hardwood mix. The area is abundant with buck sign including scrapes and rubs. I reached my ladder stand at approximately 7:15 am, and while partially up the ladder, I heard antlers begin to clash about 80 yards behind me. I knew that two bucks were fighting and that I had a good chance of seeing a decent buck on the morning hunt. I settled in and around 7:35 am I grunted 3 times and then hit an estrus can 3 times. Within minutes I observed antlers coming through the trees about 80 yards away. I got a glimpse of the rack through my scope and realized the buck had long g2’s and a good frame. The next gap the buck stepped in offered me a shot. I centered the cross hairs of my 350 legend on the buck and squeezed off! The buck took off and disappeared in a gallberry thicket. I waited about 15 minutes and couldn’t take it anymore. I climbed down and began to look for blood. After a 100 yard walk, I recovered the buck in the thicket. Although I had several shooter bucks on my trail cameras, I realized I had never seen this buck before. He has long g2’s and 3’s. I’m extremely fortunate to be able to hunt these animals and I owe many thanks to the good lord for the opportunities I’m privileged to have.
