Hunt Story

My self and another couple members have many trail-cam photos of this buck and passed on him last year as the landowner did also in hopes of him racking up. Rack up he did. This year he liked getting his picture taken but wouldn’t show for the appointment. I decided to sit the upper edge of a hardwood bottom not far from a creek and a food plot along a 2 year clearcut hoping to catch him checking does before bedding. I Was set to leave for a KY hunt yesterday but decided to stay home one more day to give it one last shot to see him. I’ve lost hours of sleep trying to figure wind and hunt strategies. So I'm In the stand by 5:45 and saw zero deer by 10 am then heard a faint grunt so I decided to use a bleat call followed up with a couple of short grunts. A buck heard the calls and popped up within 100 yards walking and nearly growling to find the action. I realized he was my target buck and dropped him with one shot. When I walked up to him I realized I dropped him in a 5-foot diameter scrape. I killed the deer with a CVA muzzleloader being I’m trying to cut down on my use of scarce rifle shells.
