Hunt Story
It was Sunday afternoon, and I had just put my husband in his stand and proceeded to mine. I climb in, pulled my gun up and settled in for a relaxing afternoon. I had not been in the stand long when I heard a buck grunting chasing a doe behind me. I picked up my grunt call and blew it a couple of times in hopes to draw the deer's attention. As I patiently waited, the buck chased the doe in the opposite direction out of hearing. I pretty much decided my hunt was over and I would spend the rest of the afternoon just enjoying the peace and quiet. I text a girlfriend of mine and we chatted for a few minutes, and as I was laying my phone down I looked up and there he was standing on the edge of the food plot. I could tell it was a big-bodied deer, so I grabbed my binoculars to make sure he was a shooter. I looked at him for what seemed like forever waiting for him to raise his head out of the brush. Finally he did, and I knew he was a trophy. I slowly lowered my binoculars and grabbed my rifle placing it on the rail of the stand so I could get a steady rest. I waited for the deer to turn broadside so I could make an ethical shot. I talked myself through lining the crosshairs up and pulled the trigger. Boom the deer leaped up and ran in the woods pushing his front end. I quickly climbed down and walked about 125 yards up the food plot to where the deer was standing. I saw blood and lots of it. I knew I had made a good shot and he could not have gone far. I began to follow the blood trail and with in 50 yards there he was piled up next to an oak tree with in 5 feet of one of the biggest scrapes I have ever seen. I took a picture, text my husband and two girls telling them mom had just killed a big buck. I then sat down on the ground by my trophy and began to cry thanking God for an amazing day and one more opportunity to share in the greatness of his creation.
