Hunt Story

Sarah Mac hunted hard this year. We hadn't seen a good buck since the last week in October. Unfortunately, we had a hard time stopping any of those to attempt a shot. Her patience finally paid off. After a slow afternoon and just seeing one 4-pointer dart across the field, deer starting to move about 5:30. We watched a really pretty sunset and grabbed a couple of pictures. We were watching three does in the field when we saw the large body emerge from the shadows. He was too far to shoot, so we tried to grunt a couple of times. I don't think he payed much attention to our grunting until a less dominant buck approached. That is when this buck made the fatal mistake of leaving the shadows to run the smaller buck off and presented a shot. Initially, we saw little blood at the point of impact, but from a good mark we were able to recover him within 60 yards of where he was last seen. Sarah Mac and I have witnessed lots of awesome sunsets from the deer stand. Sometimes those sunsets end with a monster buck and a story. This is Sarah Mac's third whitetail harvest and 2nd buck in the last 4 years. I was delighted tonight when she asked if we were going again this weekend.
