Hunt Story

I’ve previously watched this deer several times in the last 3 years. He had two large white fur spots on his back. The guys I hunt with nicknamed him Snowflake. Three years ago he was a spike, last year he was a small 8-pointer, and this year he was also an 8-pointer but wider than last year. I targeted this deer to be harvested by my 9-year-old son Ryan. Ryan has hunted with me for two years now and hasn’t ever killed a deer. After three weekends in a row of hunting, things finally changed. It was Sunday morning around 7:15 a.m., and we saw a doe coming up the hill we were watching. About 30 seconds behind her was Snowflake. Ryan instantly got nervous and excited, and he started breathing hard. I told him to calm down and focus. It only took about a minute before the buck turned sideways and Ryan made the shot. He ran about 25 yards and fell. It was a very proud moment of my life and Ryan’s. This was Ryan’s first deer ever. A 3 1/2 year old 8-pointer. ALSO, if you notice in the pictures Ryan was wearing a GON hat during the hunt.
