Hunt Story
I hunted a location all day Saturday and Sunday morning with hopes of seeing this deer or another shooter I had trail-cam pics of. Well, needless to say I didn't see them. So I decided to move to a hardwood ridge some 400 yards away that was covered with acorns. I got set up around 4 and waited. I first saw a small 8-point around 5:30, then I heard something get up from a thicket 60 yards away. It was the 8-point I was after. He came in to 20 yards before getting spooked. A doe came up bleating and pulled him back out of the thicket. He came into a hole at 30 yards and I let an arrow fly. The top of of my bow hit a limb above me causing my shot to be off. So as the deer ran off, I grabbed my grunt call and gave a few soft grunts in hopes of getting this 8-point back in range. Five minutes passed and I heard grunting coming up a ridge and realized it was the big 6 in full velvet. He walked into the same exact hole at 32 yards, and I drilled him. He ran maybe 20 yards before falling over. Man what a hunt, was lucky enough to get it all on film as well. Rough scored him at 96 3/8 inches.
