Hunt Story
The rut is on now in Terrell County. The bucks started chasing does a couple of days ago. At 7:00 this morning I began cold calling every 15 minutes using both a grunt and a doe bleat. At 7:40 a single doe came into my plot about 125 yards away from my stand. She would continuously raise her head and look over her shoulder into the hardwood creek bottom where she came from. A couple of minutes later two more does came out about 100 yards away and began feeding. All three deer kept looking back at the hardwoods, and I was pretty sure that a buck was making his way to them. At 7:45 the first doe took a few quick steps as though startled and the buck stepped out. I put my crosshairs just behind the buck's right shoulder, squeezed the trigger, and dropped the buck where he stood. He's a real nice 10-point.
