Hunt Story
I was hunting where the pines and hardwood bottom came together at the edge of a thicket in Putnam County on Oconee National Forest property. About 9 o’clock, three does came across the bottom and went into the thicket. About 45 minutes later I heard the does running back out. They had the buck in tow. They ran right by me, giving me a 35-yard shot with the Umarex Hammer air rifle. The buck went about 30 yards, started wobbling and fell over. It was a great hunt, especially on public land with an air rifle in January. I am thrilled to death.
