Hunt Story
I had just dropped my boys off at a good honey hole on Chickasawhatchee WMA, and I was running late getting in the stand that afternoon. It was around 4:15 pm and was riding by and saw a nice hardwood bottom in the middle of some tall pines, so I pulled over and grabbed my stand and walked in roughly 100 yards from my truck. I saw some good trails through tall grass and decided to get in a tree close by. Around 5:20, I caught a flash of a tail in the thick brush and it was heading toward my boy. I looked to my left and saw antlers coming though, so I hit my grunt and he stopped and looked around, but he was in the thicket and I couldn't get a clean shot. After he moved about 15 more yards I finally got a clean shot and laid him down. He was trailing a doe that was heading to my boys. Best WMA deer to date, had a blast.
