Hunt Story

This buck was bedding close to the entrance of our property. It was several days prior to this hunt, the deer was showing up leaving on the camera right before I would get to the stand, and leaving in the afternoon, he would show up on the camera shortly after I left the stand. I knew he was hearing me come and go to the deer stand. This hunt I decided to drive past the stand area and park 200 yards away, and backtrack back in to the stand with an inferred light. It was shortly after daylight does started coming to the makeshift feeder I had put up a couple of weeks earlier. It was about 10 minutes later when all of the does looked toward the bedding area and left the feeder. I knew that there was something coming. He ate at the feeder for about 10 minutes, and spotted me in the stand. We looked at each other for about 5 minutes, and he decided something was not right, so he started to walk away back to where he had come from. That's when I knew I had to act fast, and shot him behind the shoulder. I waited 15 minutes and went to recover him. He had only traveled about 20 yards. This was the first time I had saw him in person in the daylight. I had been growing this buck for over 4 years, and it was certainly worth the wait! It just shows it pays to let them go and grow. It was a day I will always remember. This was my biggest buck to date.
