Hunt Story

I have been battling throat cancer all summer and fall. I have survived chemo and radiation treatment this summer. I had major neck surgery on November 27th. I was determined not to let it keep me out of the woods. I got to the stand before daybreak. The stand overlooks two major deer trails and is really good on a NW wind. I was in the stand thinking wow it is cold (20s). The leaves have dropped off the trees and the visibility was very good. Even with good visibility the buck slipped up on me and was at 50 yards before I even saw him. I took a quick look at his rack and decided to shoot. I made a pretty good shot on him quartering away, and he ran right toward my stand. I then finished him off with a follow-up shot and he dropped in his tracks. I thank God for this deer and me be able to get out in the outdoors. We all need to enjoy God's creation because you never know how long we will be on this earth.
