Hunt Story

I’ve been hunting this QDM managed private property for about 14 years. This Sunday morning it was approximately 37 degrees, the wind was out of the north at approximately 5 to 10 miles an hour. Skies were overcast, and there was a lot of activity from the moment I pulled my rifle up. Approximately 40 minutes before I shot this buck, I shot a large doe. Since it was early in the morning and during the rut, I stayed in the woods. Another huge buck happened upon the dead doe that must’ve been in season because he would not leave her alone. I didn’t shoot him because he only had a half a rack. I have a great picture of him. Huge deer! Anyway the deer pictured came out to my right over a fence into an opening. Was so focused on the other 1/2-rack buck and his courtship of the dead doe. Fortunately for me I shoot left-handed and I had already had a gun in my hand and was able to get a shot off. We spend a lot of time and money on food plots, mineral pits and maintaining our roads and stands, so this was a great ROI.
