Hunt Story
Got off work around 3:30 Monday afternoon, and figured I better go get in the stand, because this buck had just showed up on the property I was hunting. I only had about 4 or 5 pics of him on my trail cam, but there were two days when he was passing through in daylight. I finally made it to my stand a little after 4 o'clock. I hadn't seen anything until about 5 o'clock when I heard something walking to my left. I looked over and saw a deer walking through some thick brush about 50 yards from me, but could tell it was a buck. I grabbed my gun and soon as he stepped in an opening I knew what buck it was. I put the crosshairs on his shoulder and pulled the trigger...( click )... He looked right at me! I glanced down and saw my bolt was halfway up. Apparently I hit it when I grabbed my gun, so I folded it back down, pulled the trigger again and still nothing. By this time my heart had completely sank because I just knew he was about to take off. But he just stood there looking at me, so I bolted another one in and as soon as I got the scope back on him I pulled the trigger. Boom! The gun fired this time, but he turned and trotted off like he wasn't even hit. I thought I had gotten in a rush and missed him. I waited about 15 minutes and figured I'd go look for some blood. I got to where I shot him and couldn't find anything, so now I was really upset with myself. I walked down to two trees I thought I saw him run between about 30 yards from where I shot him, and I got on my hands and knees. I finally saw one tiny little speck of blood, crawled bout 10 more yards and saw another. Then it started pouring out, I followed it about 50 yards and there he was! I drove back home to pick up my little boy and my uncle, so we could drag him out and load him up.
