Hunt Story

I went out in my backyard to a ground stand I set on a drop-off overlooking a creek. The wind was variable and off and on all morning. It was cloudy and threatening rain and did sprinkle a little bit. I set a cut off time of 10 a.m. and considered leaving early. I had only seen one squirrel shortly after daylight and no birds. As I was debating to go in, I saw a doe run onto the back of the property and just a second later the buck. The buck stopped, which is unusual, and gave me about a 50- or 60-yard shot. He went down but was struggling, so I got to him as quickly as I could and finished with my pistol.
