Hunt Story
I went hunting on some private land owned by family. I was hunting hardwoods bordered by a 6-year-old cutover. I saw very little sign, but the weather was good with a 5 mph or less NNW breeze and mostly clear sky along with temperatures in the 50s. I got in the stand at about 4 p.m. and noticed a little change in the wind to more of a west breeze. I sat confidently hoping to see something, but I didn't even see a squirrel. I was getting ready to climb down at about 5:40 p.m. and I heard something up the ridge from me in the leaves after a couple minutes I heard it again, and that's when I saw this big buck walking toward me at about 75 yards. The buck walked behind a tree, and when he stepped out from behind the tree and offered a good clear shot, I took careful aim and shot the buck at 60 yards and he went down instantly where he was standing. I looked at my watch, and it was 5:45 p.m. I climbed down and went to my deer and realized he was the biggest buck I had ever taken. He is a 10-pointer with at least four sticker points on the bases of his horns that 1-inch long.
