Hunt Story

I got in the stand with my 11-year-old niece, Elizabeth Walker, about 4:30 p.m. after a late decision to go hunting on Thanksgiving afternoon. About 20 minutes after we got settled in the stand, this deer came out behind two does. I shot him quartering to me, and he ran off into the woods. Five minutes after the shot we could smell the rutting buck laying in the woods upwind. We gave him 30 minutes before getting out of the stand, and my niece spotted him laying only 40 yards from the point of impact. Little did I know we would walk up on my biggest buck ever! Another interesting note is that 16 years ago on Thanksgiving Day my son, James Tyson, shot his first mountable buck from the same stand! God is good!
