Hunt Story

I was setup right between two crossovers at a creek drainage that separated two pine ridges. If I was going to shoot one, it was going to be extremely quick as I was right on the edge of the thick drainage so if I saw the deer, then it would be less than 20 yards from me. I spotted a deer on the ridge across from me about 200 yards away, I grunted and stopped him dead in his tracks, another grunt and here he came. Running straight to me, grunting the entire time. I heard him coming through the drainage and right where I figured he would cross over. I saw his antlers pop out and I went to full draw. I had to hold my draw for over a minute as he was still facing me, we locked eyes for a few seconds and then he made his last move. He turned just so slightly, enough to get a shot towards his vitals and I put an arrow through his shoulder and into his heart. It all happened so fast and was my first archery buck and a memory I will never forget.
