Hunt Story

Nolan set up on the south end of our property around 3 p.m. with a seat cushion, a bipod, and a .270 rifle. The wind was gusting to above 20 mph at times. His ground blind setup put him close to the action. It wasn't long (about 45 minutes) before four does walked out of the pines into the clearing and started feeding about 40 yards away. Nolan noticed more movement down in the pines and waited him out. Around 5 p.m. this old bruiser stepped out and started walking straight to the does. Nolan bleated at him twice to get him to stop. He finally paused at 25 yards away and Nolan touched off a shot. I was hunting on the northern end of our property with my younger sons (in a blind) when we heard the shot. He texted me and told me he saw it crash about 20 yards back in the pines. He was ecstatic! When we finally got the truck pulled up to his location, he had already dragged it out and was waving us down. I'll never forget the look on his face when we hopped out of the truck. He was so proud. That was a night we will never forget!!!
