Hunt Story

After a long sit, I finally saw some small bucks. I looked at the end of the field, and I saw a shooter and a smaller buck fighting. When they finally stopped, I shot! We got down out of the stand and went to where the deer was, and we are running out of daylight as we were tracking and did not find a lot of blood, so we went home and got the dog and came back. After trailing about a hundred yards with a dog, we weren't confident so we went back home and decided to go back the next morning. The next morning we picked up the trail and were on a good blood trail when a neighbor across the river from us decided to do some target shooting without a backstop and bullets were whizzing all around us, so we left for cover while the dog stayed behind. Next we went and found the neighbor and talked to him about his shooting practices and then finally we went back and got the dog to go pick up the trail again. This time the dog was not interested and wouldn't even move to get out of the truck. We didn't know what was wrong with the dog, but we soon found out as we finally found the deer and the dog had found it first and had already eaten the hind-quarters off of it, but we were happy to recover the trophy even though we're sad to lose the meat.
