Hunt Story

I took my son out on Saturday afternoon with hopes of getting him on a decent buck. We happened to see this buck earlier, not too long after getting set up. He was way too far for my boy to shoot. He crossed the gas line we were hunting and disappeared into a thick stand of pines. In a desperate attempt to get him within shooting range I grabbed my rattle bag and grunt tube and did my best impression of two bucks locking up. I wasn’t really expecting it to work but as it turned out it did. About 10 minutes later he was heading towards us back down the gas line. I told my son to get his gun up for a possible shot. I tried my best to get the deer to stop for him to shoot but he wasn’t slowing down. He told me it would be ok for me to shoot since my gun was already up. By that time his front quarter was already in the thick stuff and all I had was a small opening just big enough to squeeze a bullet into his rib cage. At the bark of my 30-06 the buck collapsed. I immediately got down and ran over to check him out. It was still early so I left him laying where he was and got back in the stand with the hope of getting my son a deer. It worked out perfectly and he was able to kill himself a nice 5 pointer
