Hunt Story
A late rut phase finally kicked in with 2 days left in the season. The deer were very active. Five does were feeding around me. Several young bucks came in early, followed by a few better bucks a little later. I heard two big deer fighting in the swamp upwind of me about 150 yards away. Shortly after that fight ended, I heard lots of running and chasing through the swamp, catching glimpses of bodies and tines, but no available shots. A 2.5-year-old 8-point and a 3.5-year-old 9-point started fighting in front of me. The noise of their fight brought this guy in to see what the commotion was about. The two others lowered their head and made room as the mature deer entered the scene and presented a favorable shot opportunity. I immediately recognized him as one of the bucks on the hit list, and was fortunate enough to make a clean kill.
