Hunt Story

My husband and I had gotten into the deer stand just before daylight. We had been there a little over half hour when my husband noticed this deer walk out onto a roadway through the pines. We had walked down this roadway to the stand. As he stood in the roadway eating acorns, I got the rifle ready, while my husband watched the buck through his binoculars. When I found the buck in my scope, I took my time and pulled onto his shoulder. I pulled the trigger, and he seemed to stand there for a second. All of a sudden he just dropped. I looked at my husband and he said, "You just shot a giant." I was in shock. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. This is the first buck that I have ever shot. My husband and I were so excited walking down to this buck. What an amazing hunt. This buck has been on trail cameras on adjacent properties, but we are not sure if we have ever had this buck on camera. Several years we had a small buck on camera that our son named "funky horn," because of his horn formation. It was similar to this buck, only much smaller.
