Hunt Story
The alarm went off Saturday morning at 5 am. I hit the snooze button two or three times. My husband finally rolled over and asked, "Are you getting up?" I replied I don't know I can't keep my eyes open. I finally after about 3 more minutes decided I needed to get up and go because there was heavy rain predicted for Sunday. So we headed out with a late start. We also had to drive two separate trucks because I had an appointment that I would have to leave the woods early to come home to. The night before I was talking about a different stand that was further back on the property, but then when I remembered I would have to leave early I picked the stand that was closest to the front of the property. We got to the property, and I got settled into my stand about 6:45 am. As the sun started coming home, all I could hear was the leaves and acorn shower that was going on all around me. After a few hours I was beginning to think I was not going to see anything before I had to get down and head home. Just before debating that I had to go, I did another look around. I looked toward my right and was like, oh my there's a deer. So I started to focus to see what it was, and then something else caught my eye, another deer. My heart started racing. The second deer raised his head, and I was like oh my goodness that is a big buck. I then realized that it was one of the 10-pointers we had on cameras over the fall. So I started asking myself how in the world am I going to get my gun and me turned to the right because I was aiming left. Well, as I was trying to calm myself down, I realized there was a total of five bucks all headed my way feeding on the acorns. By this time my heart was pounding. I started to tell myself, don't worry the deer is headed around to my left. Just stay calm, you don't have to move your gun. I continued to sit and watch, and just as I thought, the big guy fed around to my left. I got him in the scope and pow. I knew I had hit him because he took off running on three legs, holding one in the air. He ran about 15 feet to the other side of a little ditch and fell. My heart was racing. I couldn't take my eyes off him. It was amazing. After about 20 minutes I got down and went over to him and realized that he was actually an 11. He had a little extra antler starting on the left. I was so excited. This is my second buck ever, and boy was he a good one.
