Hunt Story
This is a deer we nicknamed "Big Tex." He started showing up on trail camera around the middle of August, but in two months, we only had a couple day time pictures of him. On Sunday morning, I decided to hunt a stand set up in plantation pines, which borders a large hardwood drain. The morning started off slow, but I was enjoying the first morning of the season with the temperature into the 40s. At 7:45, I look up and see a deer coming out of the hardwood drain and quickly realize it was "Big Tex." Once identified, I did not look at his rack again. He presented a shot at 80 yards, and I took it. He is my biggest deer to date, with a 23 1/2-inch inside spread and a live weight of 230.
