Hunt Story

After checking my game camera's last weekend, I had pictures of this deer showing up at a food plot several days in a row just after dark. With the snow and cold weather that we got in South GA this week, I thought there was a good chance he would show up a little earlier. I have always wanted to kill a buck in the snow, so I planned to drive out to the stand after work and try it. After working until 4:30 p.m., I arrived at my stand at about 5 p.m. There were two deer already in the food plot, so I was lucky enough to evade their senses while creeping into the blind. Over the next 30-45 minutes, another 11 deer entered the plot! Then, at last light, this 8-point walked out and gave me a broadside shot. The 1st shot hit its mark, but the buck just stood there while the other deer ran off, so I put another one in him and finished him off. I've been hunting this area for 25 years and have never been able to shoot a nice buck in January, much less in the snow. Between the Dawgs Rose Bowl victory, a South GA winter wonderland, and a successful hunt all in the first four days of January, this is shaping up to be an epic year!
