Hunt Story
During this hunt I was sitting on the corner of a grown-up cow pasture that hasn't had cows in approximately 8 years. There is a racetrack nearby, and a dirt race was underway. There we also children hollering and playing football within a few hundred yards and a road within 300 yards with a lot of noise. It was raining and the wind was blowing, and I wasn't feeling real good about my chances. All of the sudden a very loud truck went up the road, and I heard something running.... This buck comes running from another pasture through a thicket and jumps the fence onto my property and goes halfway across our field and then made a 90-degree turn and came right under my stand within 10 yards! I had seen multiple bucks during archery season without a clear shot and let them all walk because brush or another one was looking in my direction, including this buck and two other shooters I have been watching. When he ran under my stand this particular evening, I bleated with my mouth very loud and he stopped. I put the Hornady American Whitetail through both lungs and tore the front of his heart off. I knew he was a odd deer but wasn't sure he was so big until I walked down to check him out after he ran about 30 yards and collapsed. He was huge! He was around 190-lbs. with a decent-sized rack that had over 20-inch main beams and 5-inch bases. All I could do was say thank you Lord for this meat and thank the animal for giving his life for my family to have meat in our freezer!
