It was a nice clear cold morning. My dad and I were sitting about 20 feet up a large magnolia tree in a hardwood bottom. My 13-year-old brother McKay had just killed a nice 9-point buck about a 1/4 mile away when my dad and I heard deer running. I got turned around, and a doe came running out of a thicket, and she was being chased by my buck. He stopped behind some bushes for a while, and I could not get a clear shot. He then stuck his head down toward the ground and worked a scrape. My dad and I were going crazy. We were both shook up to say the least. He then walked straight away offering no shot. At 50 yards out, he finally turned broadside. I finally stopped shaking enough to fire a shot. The buck dropped in his tracks! My dad said he could tell I was really concentrating. My first words were, "That was awesome". I did not realize how big he was until after I shot. My dad told me that I had just killed a huge buck. We got down after a while and I got to go check him out. It was great. My brother and I both got a buck on the same morning.
