Hunt Story

We were sitting on a large clearcut that had burned right before season. Vegetation was sparse in the open, so we had a feeder and Throw and Grow plot around the stand. The stand is located approximately 100 yards from the tree line in a wet weather bottom that was cut around. The deer came out from the northwest around 5:30 from a thick tree line and made his way toward the bottom at our 400 position and Matti was sitting on this side. She had to turn 90 degrees to position herself as the deer approached. He kept coming and got to within 50 yards on a steady pace. I knew I had to get it still, so I mimicked a bleat with my mouth, and he froze and threw his head up. In what seemed like hours Matti sighted him in and squeezed off her .243 with a great shot behind the left shoulder as he was slightly quartered to us. He ran about 150 yards through the clearcut and went down on a tree line. Matti best quote was, "Daddy I kept looking at him in the scope and said to myself Matti are you going to pull the trigger and I finally did." Best hunt ever for this proud father.
