Hunt Story
I got settled into my climber around 7am and the hunt was pretty uneventful until around 8:30am. I heard a deer trotting my way, so I stood up and grabbed my bow. Through the thick understory I could make out a dark, large-bodied buck followed by a second lighter colored buck. They trotted by about 50 yards away, scent checking a thick bedding area. I made two deep grunts, and the lighter colored buck turned back and came to within 30 yards scanning for his competition. I was able to see he was a mature deer, by his body, short snout, and the mass on his main beams. I drew back and he stepped into an opening at 24 yards. My arrow found its mark and I watched him go down within 75 yards. Once I got to him, I was able to facetime my wife, dad, and a few hunting buddies to let them in on the celebration! This is my largest bow buck to date.
