Hunt Story

I got my first pictures of this buck Sunday morning, 9/17 as I was lying in bed with my soon-to-be 2-year-old daughter. We were getting live updates from the cell cam, receiving 18 pictures as he fed from 7:04 to 7:35 a.m. She told me "Daddy shoot him" and I knew I needed to be in the woods that afternoon. I got settled in my climber about 6:30 p.m. and 30 minutes later I had a group of does come into feed, and I was able to get a 30-yard shot on a mature doe. Five minutes after the shot I caught movement coming from my back right and it was two bucks headed my way. I went ahead and drew my bow and waited for my buck to clear some undergrowth, he gave me a 14-yard quartering away shot. We had 5 guys on the property, so we split up and 2 followed the doe's trail and 3 of us took up the buck's trail. The doe was found quickly after a short track job. The buck left a great trail, but he made it around 350 yards. I want to give thanks to the good Lord for a great hunt and my first velvet buck, my buddies for tracking and dragging, and Po Boy's deer processing for staying open a little later for me!
