Hunt Story
Because I stayed up late celebrating the Bulldogs SEC championship victory, I hadn’t planned on hunting the following morning. For some reason I couldn’t sleep and I woke up at 3 a.m. I began watching the highlights of the game. I started thinking of how cool it would be to kill a buck on the morning after the dawgs won the championship. I let my wife know that I’d be back shortly, and I headed to the woods. I decided to sit in a ground blind that I had brushed in really good a month prior. I had only sat in it once before with my 5-year-old son Charlie, so I knew it hadn’t had much pressure. I had pictures of a 5.5 year old 8-point in the area the week before, so I was hoping to get a shot at him. At 7 a.m. just after daylight I heard a stick break as if a deer stepped on it. Then I heard another break. He stepped out of the head high dog fennels at 20 yards. It wasn’t the 5.5 year old, but it was the next shooter on the list. What we believed to be a 4.5 year old 8-point. He began quartering away. I drew back when he was at 30 yards and let the arrow fly through the screen window of the blind. Hit him perfectly in the lungs and heard him crash about 40 yards away. I texted a few people and let them know the good news and then began to blood trail him. He was right where I heard him crash. This is my first buck from a ground blind with a bow. Thanks to the Lord for another great memory in the woods.
