Hunt Story

Morning hunt with crisp mid 40s temperatures early. In the stand shortly before daylight and was spotted/scented by an unknown deer before I even got completely settled in. The deer spooked and blew at me several times before moving on. I was sure my hunt was completely busted for the morning. No further activity until about 0815 when three does came in somewhat spooked and jumpy. Soon after their departure a small spike buck came through. About 0945 I was preparing to get climb down and took one last look around and caught movement in the distance. I quick look with binoculars showed a buck with promising antler size. He was moving to my right side but going behind my tree. I quickly repositioned myself backwards in my climber and found him in my scope for a better look. Definitely a good buck. I looked ahead in the direction he was moving for an opening to take a shot. He soon moved in to the opening and a single shot was placed in his left shoulder. He took the shot and stumbled approximately 30 feet before giving it up. I had not seen this buck prior to this hunt but had seen his signs and felt sure there was a good buck in the area. Great hunt, I certainly had buck fever as my heart was pounding and I could not get down that tree fast enough to go see him up close. I am thankful for the opportunity to take this buck and enjoy the outdoors.
