Hunt Story

I am certain I had seen this deer twice prior to killing him. I knew the area I felt he was bedding in and had been playing the wind to try and get close over the past few weeks with my bow. This particular day I was running behind and grabbed my bow and my rifle out of my jeep. With climber, backpack, rifle and bow I started slipping in where I thought he could be as I had been seeing some really good sign of a buck using the area. With me running behind I wasn’t for sure if I would climb a tree or sit on the ground. As I neared close to the area, I seen what I thought was a white throat patch of a deer. As I started to kneel down I saw a ear flicker and knew immediately a deer was bedded up. I dropped to my knees taking everything off and grabbing my .270 to look at the deer thru the scope as he was 100 yards away. As soon as I got the deer in my scope he stood up and I could see rack. The area I hunt is strictly managed and was extremely hesitant of taking the shot. He actually got in a small draw I grunted twice and he came within 15 yards of me. Trying to circle downwind and I could just see how heavy he was and that he was of age. I took the shot and he ran about 100 yards and that was the end of the story.
