Hunt Story

I had decided to go hunting on a side of the property where I had been seeing a lot of deer signs. Also, my dad and I had put up a trail camera to see what was coming around. I knew that we had a pretty decent buck that had been walking around eating acorns near where I had placed my stand. I had been in the stand about an hour and had not seen anything. I had my phone, so I texted my dad to see if there was anything in the pasture behind the house. He said that he saw one so I climbed down and pulled down to the front of the chicken houses and walked around to sit at the back on the ground. I didn't know at the time but the deer that my dad had saw was a small 6-point, and it had walked out in the pasture and had laid down. As I sat, the small buck stood up and began eating. After a few minutes a larger 8-point walked out of the trees. I could see that he was a nice buck, so I took my shot. The deer ran off and I called my dad. We waited about 10 minutes and went looking for the deer. We searched until well after dark and could find no sign of the deer. No blood trail at all. We decided that I must have just missed even though I was sure that I had a good shot. The next morning my dad went back to look again for the deer. As he drove the tractor around the edge of the field he saw it. The deer had ran, then turned, and fell over into a small ditch behind a clump of green bushes about 30 yards from where I shot him. We were walking all over him the night before but just couldn't see him.
