Hunt Story
I was watching a 2.5-year-old 8-point buck following some does. The does continued on and the 8-point stopped to eat. After about 20 minutes, I heard some grunting going on down behind the 8-point. I didn't see the does any more and there were no other deer in sight, so I knew another buck was close by. Then, this buck came up behind the 2.5 year old. The smaller buck then moved out of the area in the direction of the does. I lost this buck in the thick bushes for almost 20 minutes. I was afraid he had moved out the back side and away from me. But then he came out and was walking dead away from me up a hill. I could see his tines as they were going through the small trees. He was about 80-100 yards away. I started using my grunt call with no effect, it wouldn't even stop him. So I blew on my grunt call as loud as it would go. He heard it and turned. I hit it one more time so that he could hear it. He turned and started walking my way. As he got closer, within 50 yards, my cell phone fell off my lap and hit the platform and almost every step down to the ground. I just knew I had blown my chance. But, he stopped and looked, then continued toward me. He got to within 35 yards, and I grunted with my mouth so that he would stop. And he gave me a great quartering shot. I had a through and through shot with my 30-06 Remington Core-loc round. He ran 20 yards and crashed. My heart was pounding and adrenaline rushing. Great Hunt!!! Thanks for reading.
