Hunt Story

My friend, Bill wanted to do a "push" through a low land, thick pine and brush area south of my stand, to see if he could stir up a couple of 8-point bucks we had been seeing on trail-camera pictures. About an hour after he headed into those woods, I had a small 6-point buck (that we had previously seen on trail camera pictures) come in from behind me on the left and stop about 60 yards in front of me. He froze and stared in the direction my friend was moving. After several minutes he moved off in the direction from which he came. About 20 minutes later I heard crunching footsteps coming from behind on my right side and doe appeared in a clear area, just 30 yards in front of me. Within seconds a big buck appears who was obviously running with her. There was no need to size this buck up, as it was immediately obvious that he was a "shooter!" As he continued to trot by, I grunted to get him to stop, which he did at about 60 yards out. Believe me there was no hesitation as I lined up the shot and fired. My friend appeared out of the thick stuff minutes later and within just a few more minutes we had found the buck! He's a cow, Bill exclaimed as we approached the deer. We high-fived in celebration as we stood over "our" prize!
