Hunt Story

My Pap and I were hunting in a stand we had put up several years ago. We had a camera up a ways off, and had what we think, are pictures of this deer, but in previous hunts, had not seen a mature buck yet this year, out of that stand. We had passed on several small bucks and does already this year, trying to wait for a good one. Just after 10 a.m., I looked to the left side of the blind, and could see a doe coming down the ridge. I told Pap that I saw a deer, and to be still. He turned his head and was looking for it, and in just a minute, told me that he saw a big buck. He showed the buck to me, and I knew it was a good one. The does came on down into the swamp below us, and just hung out. The buck was watching them, and then he just disappeared into the brush. I thought he had left and that we would not get a shot at him. Pap said he would not leave unless he saw or smelled us, or the does left. We did not see him again for at least 20 minutes, but as it turned out, he was still hid in the brush watching the does. After about 20 minutes, Pap said he saw him coming toward the does. He walked out of the brush, and I got my rifle on him and shot. He went about 20 yards and fell.
